Coinage of $10 gold coins resumed in 1838 after a hiatus of 34 years. Issued from 1838 to 1866 without the motto IN GOD WE TRUST, which was added from 1866 to 1907, the design is nearly identical to that of the $5 Liberty. With a mintage of over 42 million, Liberty Head Eagles widely circulated domestically, and was also used in large quantities for international payments.
