Identical in appearance to the Indian Head $2.5; the only other U.S. gold coin to employ an incuse design. Circulated coins present a challenge to the numismatist as the mint mark was raised and typically weakly struck, and is often quite worn and indistinct. Issued from 1908 to 1916, and then in 1929, in a quantity of just over 14 million pieces.
